Do you have a Q?
While the underlying causes of hair thinning can be different for men and women, everything we make here at Collective Laboratories is designed to work for all people–regardless of gender.
We recommend that you use Activating Serum at least once a day.
Yes, Activating Serum is safe for women experiencing postpartum hair thinning.
Activating Serum was formulated to be safe for use while breastfeeding, but it’s always best to check with your doctor before you try new products.
Yes! Prevention is the most effective measure that you can take against thinning hair. The active botanicals and science-backed ingredients in Activating Serum help nourish your scalp and maintain follicle health. With regular use, Activating Serum helps maintain your hair’s normal growth cycle.
Activating Serum starts working immediately, but it can take up to three months for you to see noticeable results simply because it takes a while for your hair cycle to respond to treatment. Patience and consistency are key; new hair doesn’t happen overnight.
You wouldn’t use an anti-aging cream once and expect to see results, right? The same goes for your hair. Consistency is key when it comes to supporting the health of your scalp and strands, and it’s the little steps you take every day that really make a difference. That’s why we decided to offer Activating Serum in a subscription–so it’s easier to continue supporting your hair every day.
Thinning hair is no different than aging skin or acne. If you stop using your anti-aging cream or acne treatment, your wrinkles and breakouts will gradually come back. The same goes for thinning hair. If you stop using our products, your hair will gradually make its way back to its starting point–unless something has changed inside your body as a result of other health and lifestyle changes. It’s important to stress that this process will be gradual. If you stop using Activating Serum, your hair won’t suddenly change the next day, week, or even month.
Never! Animal cruelty has no place in our lab or your bathroom. We test our products on ourselves (and our friends) so we know that they really work.
Yes, you can safely use Activating Serum on color-treated and highlighted hair. We don’t use harsh sulfates or other ingredients that can diminish the lifespan of your dye job, so you’re good to go.
Sure! Activating Serum adds volume and makes your hair feel thicker, so you might not actually need to use other styling products to get the look you want. That said, Activating Serum does play nicely with others. There’s no need to change your regimen if you’re hooked on a specific styling aid.
We source ingredients from around the world, but we make our products in our lab in California.
We search the world for the best ingredients. We’ll try anything: scalp massages in South Korea, herbal hair masks made by grandmothers in India, rare botanicals from the Amazon rainforest. Led by the wisdom of these traditions, we discover effective natural ingredients that improve hair quality, prevent strand loss, and promote growth. We make an effort to source the highest quality version of each of our ingredients, which often means importing them from other countries. Once we get them into our lab in California, we blend the raw ingredients to create our formulas.
Yes! In fact, many of our customers use minoxidil and have been happy with the boost in results they’ve seen from using both treatments together. In addition to their long-term benefits, both Activating Serum and minoxidil can help your hair immediately feel thicker (just blow-dry after application to see the difference), so they also make a great styling combination.
Yes, our products work with internal prescription hair loss medications like finasteride and topical medications like minoxidil. If you are using other topical medications, please check with your doctor first before layering treatments.
Activating Serum was specifically formulated to increase blood flow to the surface of the scalp in order to promote and maintain the health of your hair follicles. As blood rushes to the surface, your scalp may feel warm. This sensation should dissipate within 5-10 minutes. If, at any point, the warming sensation becomes painful, rinse out the product immediately.
Activating Serum contains ingredients that can be irritating to your eyes. We recommend washing your hands after use so that you don’t accidentally introduce the product to the eye area.
The warming sensation is an indication that the product is working to increase blood flow to the scalp. It is not a sign of surface skin trauma or exfoliation. The sensation should dissipate within 5-10 minutes and should not cause any lingering scalp sensitivity or redness.
While applying Activating Serum to a damp scalp won’t interfere with the product, we don’t recommend leaving your scalp damp in any case. Think about it: you wouldn’t leave a soggy towel on your face for hours, so why leave your scalp saturated with moisture while waiting for your hair to dry? Bacteria, yeast, and other aggressors that inhibit the health of your hair follicles thrive in moist, warm environments. We recommend blow-drying or towel-drying your scalp after every shower and after every product application to prevent these microbes from hanging out on your head.
Yes, our Activating Serum does work for people with Alopecia. While the underlying cause of hair loss is sometimes unknown, we do have customers with alopecia who have reported seeing 'baby hairs' have 3 to 4 months of consistent use.
Since the Activating Serum does not contain any drugs, it does not need to be FDA approved. However, we have scientific studies to support the effectiveness of our Serum.
