Ingredient Profile: Panthenol is the Vitamin B5 That Helps with Hair Loss
A form of vitamin B5, panthenol is the best of both science and nature. It is provitamin of the B-vitamin group that is converted into pantothenic acid in your body. We added panthenol to our Activating Serum because it moisturizes your head and hair from scalp to strand and prevents both from getting dehydrated.
What is Panthenol?
Panthenol is composed of multiple groups of oxygen bonded to hydrogen, making it hydrophilic and hygroscopic. This means it attracts water from the atmosphere and binds it to the molecule, promoting water retention and minimizing water loss due to evaporation. Its ultra-hydrating properties make panthenol ideal for soothing insect bites, poison ivy, diaper rashes, and eczema.
How Does Panthenol Help Hair Grow?
On your head, panthenol’s anti-irritant and anti-inflammatory properties hydrate the scalp and soothe irritation. Below the surface, panthenol is easily absorbed by the skin where it can influence the metabolic processes of epidermal cells. It hydrates epithelial tissue, improves elasticity, and promotes cell regeneration. After it penetrates the hair cuticle, panthenol enters the hair shaft where it promotes moisture retention and provides volume.
Beyond scalp support, panthenol protects strands from styling and environmental damage by locking in moisture and slowing thinning hair. Panthenol spreads evenly across the surface of each strand, forming a smooth film over hair cuticles that adds volume and shine and improves hair texture while preventing tangles.
